PPL Electric Utilities, a major electric utility company here in Pennsylvania, has many customers believing that they have been overbilled for months. The overbilling has affected thousands of customers and has resulted in some customers receiving bills that are hundreds or even thousands of dollars more than they should be.

The overbilling is due to a technical issue that has prevented PPL from accurately reading customer meters. As a result, PPL has been estimating customer usage, and those estimates have been too high.

PPL has apologized for the overbilling and has said that it is working to fix the technical issue. The company has also said that it will credit customers for the overpayments.

However, some customers are still angry about the overbilling. They say that they have been struggling to pay their bills, and that the overpayments have put them in a financial bind.

The overbilling by PPL is a reminder of the importance of having accurate energy bills. If you think that you have been overbilled, you should contact your utility company immediately.

In addition to the overbilling, PPL has also been criticized for its customer service. Many customers have complained that they have had difficulty getting through to PPL customer service, and that they have been put on hold for long periods of time.

PPL has said that it is working to improve its customer service, but it is unclear how long it will take for the company to make significant improvements.

PPL states: "We understand the continued concern around high energy bills. While high supply prices continue to be the main driver of higher electricity costs, we also recognize that our billing process has fallen short of our own standards and many of our customers have received bills based on estimated use, some have experienced delays in their bills, and others have not been charged for their complete supply costs. We’re working to resolve all of these impacts as quickly as possible. In addition, we’ve trained hundreds of additional customer representatives so that we are able to research and address any bill concerns."

The overbilling and customer service issues at PPL are a reminder that consumers need to be vigilant when it comes to their energy bills. If you think that you have been overbilled, you should contact your utility company immediately.

Update 4/19/2023: PPL has released an updated statement, which reads in part: "For those of you who have been affected by these billing process challenges, we apologize. It has taken more time than we anticipated to fix this. Many of the solutions require complex, multi-step procedures to implement, and we are working diligently to complete them."
